Danum Valley – Borneo’s “Lost World”

The Danum Valley an area of approx. 440 sq km of protected virgin rainforest. Due to its vast size, Sabah’s largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp forest is home to some of Sabah’s rarest animals and plants, including the Sumatran rhinoceros. There are over 30km (18 miles) of marked trails which can be explored at your leisure and also a tree top walkway suspended 40 metres up in the forest canopy. Borneo Rainforest Lodge is situated on a bend in the Danum River, the tree covered valley walls spectacularly rearing up on the far side of the water. Rhinoceros Hornbills fly through the valley, their eerie calls echoing around the magnificent jungle. It is a fantastic location for exploring Borneo’s real rainforest. Your next destination is, up-river, by boat to Bukit Melapi Lodge, from where you will later journey up one of the smaller tributaries of the Kinabatangan River. Proboscis monkeys, with their massive noses are only to be found in Borneo. Most evenings, troops of these monkeys come down to the riverbank to feed, and from your boat you have the perfect vantage point. Wildlife abounds in this part of Borneo and you may see chattering monkeys and many species of birds. If you pause for a minute or two & keep quiet, you may be lucky enough to see a wild orang utan swinging in the trees. There have been increased sightings of the rare pygmy elephant recently and your experienced guide gives you the best chance of seeing these animals.
This perfect holiday ends with days at leisure at Shangri-la Rasa Ria Beach Resort.

Orang Utan in trees, Borneo Rainforest
The Orang Utans of Borneo
Borneo and Orang utans are synonymous and today these wonderful creatures are at greater risk than ever before. Thankfully, efforts are being made to ensure that the future of the Orang utan is not as dismal as it might seem and we are happy to be able to take people to one of the longest standing Orang utan sanctuaries on the island of Borneo to see their care and rehabilitation in progress.
We offer you more days at the sanctuary than any other tour operator and a few days at the end of your holiday to relax on a beach and a chance to see more of Borneo if you wish.

Your KK Tours people were very efficient and were always on time and very helpful. In particular they called the night before flights etc to confirm time of pick-ups which was reassuring.

Just by way of info the Sepilok Water hole is closed again however after the walk to the bird tower on day 5 (just over 2 hours there and back),the agreed view of us and the guide was that the programme arranged for day 6 was overly optimistic so this trek was not missed – we had more time watching the orangutans .

Also the Sepilok Nature resort is now “dry” , the Banana Cafe about 150 metres down the road more or less opposite the resort entrance is well stocked with cold beer and wine as well serving very good food.

WOW what can I say!

You organised everything brilliantly

The trips, tours, accommodation, food, animals, yes we saw my orang-utans, probiscus monkeys, pygmy elephants plus much much more and the great big flower (sorry forgot its name!).

Awesome holiday, THANK YOU.

We just wanted to say thank you for organising our holiday in Borneo – it really was fantastic. Everything worked out really well – all the guides were there to meet us and we would particularly like to commend Bryant who was our guide (and Jeffrey the driver) who were with us in Sandekan – he was the best guide we have ever come across – knowledgable, friendly and efficient! We got on really well with him. We manged to see wild Orang Utans as well as the ones at Sepilok which was very exciting!! Richard enjoyed his climb and I enjoyed the lodge while I waited! The Rasa Ria at the end was superb!

Thanks you for your excellent organisation – we will certainly be recommending you! (And Betty – our guide in KK said you were the best of all the Uk companies for them to work with and told us we were very lucky to have come with you!)
