Discover Tamil Nadu  from £1086 per person on Double/Twin sharing basis  (Land arrangements only)

A perfect short tour to introduce you to the little visited region of Chettinad in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, with its fabulously decorated, but largely now uninhabited, mansions.  Also including sightseeing and overnight in Chennai (formerly named Madras) and time on a beach.

Day 1   Fly UK to Chennai   Day 2   Arrive Chennai. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Mamallapuram (about one and a half  hours) where you will spend the night and relax, maybe, also enjoying the longest swimming pool in in India.    Day 3   Site-seeing in Mamallapuram, inc. The Shore Temple, Five Rathas, Arjuna's Penance etc.    Day 4   Drive to Pondicherry.  There will also be a chance to do some site-seeing in this former French colony.   

Day 5   Drive to Chettinad. Site-seeing en route including Tanjore. Check in to your hotel. A chance to relax and swim followed by a late afternoon visit to the antiques street.    Day 6   After a leisurely breakfast there will be a chance to visit the local town and some of the Chettinad mansions.   Day 7  Drive to Trichy. Site-seeing before being taken to the airport for the flight to Chennai. Check into Hotel.   Day 8  Appropriately timed transfer to the airport to board your return flight to the UK.

A lovely tour which is a good introduction to the beautiful southern state of Kerala. From cities, lakes and houseboats, mountains, wildlife and beaches, this tour gives you a taste of them all.   All the hotels and resorts used in this tour are of Deluxe grade and have a high commitment to preserving the environment.  

Day 01  Arrive and transfer to hotel for 2 nights.  Evening,sunset cruise along harbour to see the various activities and Chinese fishing nets    Day 02  Half day tour of Cochin, inc. fish market, Chinese nets, St. Francis Church, Santa Cruz Basilica, Jewish Synagogue, Dutch Palace & Jew Street. Afternoon at leisure. Evening Kathakali dance show Day 03   After breakfast drive to Kanam, halfway to the wildlife reserve of Periyar, making it the ideal stopover on this otherwise rather long journey. Check in to Hotel.     Day 04   After breakfast drive to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, visiting rubber and tea plantations enroute. Stay here for 2 nights. A deluxe resort of tribal village design, with cottage roofs thatched with elephant grass in the style of tribal huts. Evening spice plantation visit.     Day 05   Morning nature walk using trails traversing diverse habitats, generally 4 to 5 km. in length. The trails often pass through evergreen and moist deciduous forests interspersed with marshy grasslands. You will be accompanied by a trained tribal guide. Return to the hotel for leisure time and Lunch.  Afternoon proceed on a drive to Elephant Junction, an elephant park in Murikkady (Thekkady). The winding journey to this hill town, through the spice gardens, offers a stunning view of the rolling hills draped in lush greenery, washed in fresh spice scented air. Arrive at Elephant Junction and experience a half day program which includes two and a half hour ride, Elephant Bath, Elephant Shower, Timber Dragging, Commands and communication, Plantation study, Elephant feeding, Photo Session etc. Day 06   After breakfast checkout from hotel and transfer to Alleppey, known as the "Venice of the East" where traders came in search of black pepper. Board the houseboat to begin the cruise through canals covered by mauve hyacinths. Rest of the day at leisure on the houseboat - relax while the boat cruises through serene backwater canals of Alleppey and its villages on Vembanadu Lake.  Lunch, afternoon Tea, dinner and overnight on the houseboat.    Day 07 After breakfast, disembark at Coconut Lagoon Resort for 1 night, a heritage resort on Vembanad Lake. This resort can only be reached by boat. Evening one hour sunset cruise on Vembanad Lake.    DAY 08  Late morning transfer to the jetty where the chauffeur will meet you and drive you to Mararikulam, a small village inhabited by local fisher families This small village has numerous soft sand beaches & swaying palm trees.  Stay at a Beach Resort for 2 nights.   Day 09  All  day at leisure to relax at the beach resort.    Day 10  In good time you will be transferred to Cochin International Airport for your return flight.

Day 01     Fly London to Delhi

Day 02     Meeting and assistance at airport, then transfer to hotel & remainder of day at leisure Overnight at hotel.

Day 03     Old and New Delhi sightseeing. Visit Gandhi’s Memorial at Raj ghat, Jama Masjid mosque, Chandni chowk street market,                   drive past Red Fort and Govt. buildings, India Gate. Also, visit Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb.  

Day 04    Fly Delhi to Udaipur (1455/1615 hrs) and on arrival check into hotel.  Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 05     Visit City Palace, Garden of maids, Pratap memorial, drive past Fatehsagar Lake & boat ride on Lake Pichola.

Day 06     Drive Udaipur to Pushkar and check in to hotel. Afternoon explore the ghats an temples in Pushkar.

Day 07     By road from Pushkar to Jaipur. Afternoon free at leisure.

Day 08     Elephant ride at Amer Fort. Visit City Palace, observatory and a photo-stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of winds).

Day 09     Jaipur to Ranthambore. Afternoon free at leisure.

Day 10     Ranthambore.   Morning and afternoon game drives in Ranthambore National Park.

Day 11     Transfer to Sawai Madhopur railway station and board train for Bharatpur. Drive to Agra and visit the desert city of                   Fatehpur Sikri enroute.

Day 12     Today visit the fabulous Taj Mahal and the Red Fort at Agra.

Day 13     Drive to Delhi. On arrival transfer to New Delhi airport & board flight for Varanasi (1325/1450 hrs). Check in to hotel on

                   arrival and remainder of the day free to explore on your own or just relax.

Day 14     Early Morning boat ride on the River Ganges. Visit the hold site of Sarnath and city sightseeing. In the evening                      see the ‘arti’ (fire prayer) ceremony on the ghats on the banks of the River Ganges.

Day 15     Morning free at leisure. In the afternoon transfer to Varanasi airport to board flight for Delhi (1625/1750 hrs). On arrival at                   Delhi, transfer to your hotel to overnight.

Day 16     Appropriately timed transfer to International airport to board flight for UK.

For July August & September departures Ranthambore National Park is closed so substitute Days as follows will apply

Day 09     By road from Jaipur to Dholpur (275 Kms/06 hrs).

Day 10     A full day in Dholpur, inc. A boat ride on the Chambal River to see fresh water dolphins, crocodiles and other  marine life;                    visit a crocodile farm and Machkund temple.

Day 11     Drive to Agra (70 Kms/1.5 hrs) and continue the program, as above.

The famous Golden Triangle in northern India   With all the usual sightseeing on this tour (see below itinerary)  this is the perfect introduction to India for a first time visitor

Day by Day Itinerary     Day 1        Fly London Heathrow to Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.  Day 2 Arrive Delhi    Transfer to your Hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure .   Day 3  In Delhi Full day sightseeing in Delhi.    Day 4 Delhi to Agra (205 Kms / 04 Hrs)  Morning drive to Agra, visit Agra Fort in the afternoon and an evening visit to Mehatab Bagh.  Day 5  In Agra  Morning visit Taj Mahal, gleaming white in the bright sunshine. In the afternoon, you may take optional visit to Itmad ud Daulah & Sikandra (pay locally).    Day 6 Agra – Jaipur (239 Kms / 05 hrs)  Drive to Jaipur, enroute visit the desert city of Fatehpur Sikri and Abhaneri to see the oldest and grandest stepwell in Rajasthan.   On arrival in Jaipur, check in to your hotel and remainder of the day is at leisure.  Day 7  In Jaipur   Drive up to Amer (Amber) Fort followed by Jaigarh & Nahargarh Fort. Visit City Palace, Jantar Mantar observatory, make a photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Wind) then visit Baapu bazaar to explore the local market on your way back to the hotel with your evening at leisure.  Day 8  In Jaipur  Day free at leisure. In the late afternoon visit a local Indian family and learn the art of Indian cooking and dine with them.    Day 9   Jaipur to Delhi   Transfer, by road, to Delhi and overnight at a hotel in Delhi’s Aerocity, close to the airport.   Day 10  Appropriately timed transfer to teh airport for your return flight to the UK
