On a first visit to India, most people want to see New Delhi and its Lutyens' designed government buildings; the ultimate symbol of India, the breathtaking Taj Mahal in Agra and spend some time viewing India's myriad wildlife. On this tour you can do all these things and in as short a time as we think is reasonable. It is a 'straight line' tour beginning in Delhi and going south to Agra and into the borderlands of Madhya Pradesh state where you will stay at a jungle lodge. Not only that, but we will also make sure you visit the fascinating town of Bateshwar, with its multitude of temples dedicated mainly to Lord Shiva and its bathing ghats (steps) down into the Yamuna river.
This is the perfect first visit to India with short travelling times
yet showing you some famous sights, plus relaxation at a jungle lodge.

‘Beyond the Taj Mahal’ - New Delhi, Agra & The Taj Mahal and Chambal Safari
Day 01 Fly London Heathrow to New Delhi on scheduled air services.
Day 02 Arrive at New Delhi International Airport to be met and greeted and transferred to your hotel, where you check in, relax a while and then begin your New Delhi sightseeing tour, visiting Old Delhi and its famous open air street market Chandni Chowk; Jama Masjid mosque, the largest in India and the spice market, where you can have a rickshaw ride. You will also drive past the Red Fort, and on to New Delhi and its government buildings designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and with a photo stop at India Gate. Return to your hotel to overnight.
Day 03 After breakfast you will be met at the hotel by your driver who will take you to Agra (approx 4 hrs) where you will first check in to your hotel and then, after lunch you will visit the wonderful Taj Mahal, the monument to love built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his wife Nur Jahan. This world famous monument to love will take your breath away. Later in the afternoon, you can visit the Agra Red Fort, with its magnificent royal apartments & gardens and views across the city to the Taj Mahal. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 04 After breakfast you will drive on to Mela Koti, The Chambal Safari Lodge (approx 1.5 hrs) an oasis of tranquility nestled within sprawling acres of quiet reclaimed woodland. On arrival check in and settle in then have a leisurely lunch. You can explore the grounds of the lodge on your own during the afternoon or just sit and relax before going out on an evening game drive. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 05 Early morning game drive and return to the lodge for breakfast. Remainder of the morning to relax and after lunch visit to the nearby town of Bateshwar. Like a much smaller Varansi and little known, Bateshwar with its ghats (steps) down to the Yamuna River, its many white painted, domed temples dedicated to the Hindu god Lord Shiva, this is a fascinating town little visited by overseas visitors to India. During the early part of November each year there is a large animal fair here where hundreds of ponies, horses and camels are traded.
Day 06 A full day of nature today, with drives morning and evening, plus a Jeep ride to nearby Bhareh where you can see the confluence of the Rivers Yamina & Chambal, an ancient Shiva temple and the remains of the Fortress, blasted by the British during an uprising in 1857. You can also go on a River safari where you are likely to see river crocodiles, gharwals, if you are lucky, even the rare river dolphin. You will be accompanied by qualified guides, experienced and capable who will point out many types of animal and birdlife during the boat ride. If you prefer you can take a camel ride to the nearby Fort Ater, or go on a Jeep ride to visit nearby rural villages where you can see potters at their wheels, cobblers making and repairing leather items from shoes and sandals to bags and shops selling all kinds of things from foodstuffs to beautiful hand embroidered quilts.
Day 07 After breakfast you wave goodbye to Chambal and begin your drive back to Delhi (approx 5 hrs) with stops en route. If you see somewhere that looks interesting, tell your driver you'd like to stop to take a look. On arrival back at Aerocity, near the airport, you will be dropped at your hotel to check in and overnight.
Day 08 You leave India today and will be transferred to the airport at an appropriate time for your return flight to London Heathrow.
